She sits in a yoga pose with Gaṅgā and crescent moon in her head similar to the lord Śiva. She is the tantric focus of spiritual power. Her shrine faces north, the direction of kailāśa, symbolizing release from the cycle of birth and death. Devī Kamalā amman is located in Thyagaraja Temple is a Śiva temple, located in the town of Thiruvarur in Tamil Nadu.
